A resolver (aka rotary electrical transformer) is an analog version of a rotary or pulse encoder or a digital resolver. A resolver measures degrees of rotation of a shaft by converting the mechanical motion of the shaft to an electronic signal. The most common type of resolver seen in our industry is a brushless transmitter resolver which looks very much like a tiny AC motor with its 2 major components being a stator and a rotor. Resolvers are very robust devices because of the lack of optics in their design.
